Syngenta closing Cottam facility

Syngenta will be closing its plant at Cottam by May 31, the company announced this week.

Eleven people work there. The company says they are eligible for company employment elsewhere.

The site will be put up for sale.

Syngenta, which has its headquarters in Switzerland, was bought last year by ChemChina.

Its Canadian head office is in Guelph.

According to George Sousa, territory supply manager for Syngenta Canada, the company is committed to delivering the highest quality products and services to its customers.

“This action is a business decision and is not related to the performance of the team at Cottam, Ontario.

“The staff at this location have performed at a high level, and Syngenta values the team members for their knowledge, skills, experience, and contributions,” he said.

Until 2010 the site was used for seed production and then it was changed to distribution.
