Tyson ups the ante on antibiotic-free chicken

Tyson Foods is going to require all of the chicken marketed under its brand name to be grown without ever using any antibiotics.

It’s coming under a new logo in June.

Rival Perdue Farms had led the industry on the issue and in October announced it had completed the final step away from the routine use of any antibiotics in its chicken production by eliminating use of animal-only antibiotics.

Tyson announced in 2015 that it would seek to eliminate the use of human antibiotics from its U.S. broiler chicken flocks by the end of September 2017, a goal it achieved ahead of schedule.
