Sleeman expands in Guelph

Sleeman Breweries is expanding production and packaging at its Guelph plant so it can bring back production now done under contract in the United States.

But we, the Ontario taxpayers, are on the hook for yet another corporate welfare bum.

The expansion by owner Sapporo of Japan will cost $6.61 million for new beer tanks, upgrading equipment and expanding packaging.

The Guelph brewery employs about 220 people producing  127.5 million litres of beer per year for 25 brands

The expansion will take until 2020 and will add 15 jobs.

The province announced Monday it will provide $422,000. That's our tax dollars.
